Led by Dr. Sameh Abdelwahed, the AMSC Lab is an integral part of the Department of Chemistry at Prairie View A&M University, where Dr. Abdelwahed has been a faculty member since 2018.
With a Ph.D. in Supramolecular Chemistry from Marquette University and postdoctoral research experience in Biochemistry and Enzymology from Cornell University and Texas A&M University, Dr. Abdelwahed is a distinguished expert in multiple fields of chemistry. His academic background includes a master's degree in Medicinal Chemistry and a bachelor's degree in General Chemistry from Cairo University.
Dr. Abdelwahed's research focuses on the design and synthesis of biologically active heterocyclic organic compounds and the synthesis and study of charge delocalization mechanisms in molecular wires. His contributions to bio-organic and supramolecular chemistry are substantial, with over 34 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as Science, Nature Communications, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. His work has garnered over 1500 citations, underscoring its significant impact.
Beyond his research, Dr. Abdelwahed is committed to mentorship and education, having successfully guided numerous undergraduate and graduate students into prestigious programs. He actively engages with the scientific community as a reviewer for esteemed journals and as a panelist for the NSF CHE MRI competition. Additionally, Dr. Abdelwahed is instrumental in teaching development, community outreach, and workshop organization, fostering an environment of interdisciplinary learning and academic excellence.
